For the 2021 edition of Art Basel in Switzerland, Venus Over Manhattan is pleased to present a group of work by Peter Saul. The presentation comprises a new, monumentally scaled painting, alongside important and historic material that lambasts political figures and skewers controversial social issues. The exhibition marks the first solo art fair presentation of Saul’s work since the gallery announced representation of the artist in 2019. Following a set of major milestones in Saul’s nearly sixty-year-long career, including a full scale retrospective at The New Museum curated by Massimiliano Gioni and Gary Carrion-Murayari, the presentation testifies to Saul’s position as one of the most important American artists of the last fifty years.

The painter — known for colorful, cartoony works that explore the depths of American depravity — is still pushing the boundaries, but enjoys quiet afternoons on his porch most of all.
The 86-year-old painter is showing his latest works in concurrent New York gallery shows at Venus Over Manhattan and Michael Werner Gallery.
The painter’s biting critiques shape his five-decade retrospective at the New Museum.
His cartoony style and subjects exalt sensation as an end in itself.
