Sotheby's S|2 Gallery & Venus Over Manhattan to show Maurizio Cattelan
Sotheby's S|2 Gallery & Venus Over Manhattan, New York, are to show "Maurizio Cattelan: Cosa Nostra," from 30 October until 26 November, 2014.
The show, organised by curator and collector Adam Lindemann, is the artist's first large-scale exhibition since "Maurizio Cattelan: All" at the Guggenheim, after which he retired.
The two galleries will present what is considered to be the most detailed, faithful and rich portrait of the work of one of the most celebrated provocateurs of the art worls.
This sale exhibition will show a large body of work from across the career of Maurizio Cattelan, notably including the works which made him one of the most distinctive and unique artists of his generation. The works come from important private collections with prices ranging from $30,000 to $20 million.
Throughout his oeuvre, Maurizio Cattelan forces the viewer to question his relationship with the world; his works are troubling, both physically and psychologically. There is a constant sense of the reciprocity between good and bad, and humour and indifference.
