Ana Benaroya: Swept Away at Venus Over Manhattan

On its tenth anniversary, Venus Over Manhattan will open a second location on 55 Great Jones Street between Lafayette and the Bowery. On April 8th, “Swept Away,” an exhibition featuring work by Ana Benaroya, will commence the opening of this new location.
Benaroya’s work depicts distorted women with super-heroic musculature, running counter to common representations of the feminine form. Her work has received critical acclaim for its representation of queerness and queer desire. In an interview with She-Curates, she describes her work as “slightly manic. Kinda always on the verge of losing control.”
