Scandalous author Michel Houellebecq has presented a selection of his works of art in the USA for the first time. Dozens of photos nd photomontages have been on display at Galerie Venus on the chic Upper East Side in New York since Friday. Title of the show: "French Bashing."
The pictures show scenes and montages mainly recorded in Western Europe, one room is very dark, another one very bright in contrast. The exhibition, titled "French Bashing." is still open until August 4th.
At the opening of the exhibition in New York, Houellebecq gave autographs. A few hours before, he had been waiting for almost an house in a bookstore for more than 100 visitors and then apologized as ill.
Houellebecq, born in 1958 on the French Overseas Réunion, has gained worldwide fame with novels such as "Elementary Particles." Controversial statements on women, history and Islam, among others, have repeatedly provoked provocation and scandals.
