Biography

Anastasia Bay - Artists - Venus Over Manhattan

Anatasia Bay’s was born in 1988 in Paris, France. Bay's paintings evoke mythological and art historical sources as well as ancient figurative depictions and contemporary culture, rendering a kind of universally legible and deeply resonant output that is both singularly striking and cross-culturally rhizomic. Drawing on a global visual history her characters feel both immediate and timeless, often set against opaque backgrounds, Bay transmogrifies a shared visual language into her own unique idiom. Bay graduated from the prestigious École Nationale Supérieure des Beaux-Arts in Paris in 2012 and her recent exhibitions include: “The Awaken of the Cariatids”, Galerie Derouillon, Paris; “Allez Allez”, Centre Wallonie Bruxelles, Paris; “LEAF”, Fondation Boghossian, Villa Empain, Brussels; “One Hundred Ghost Stories”, Sorry We’re Closed, Brussels; “Zillions Forefathers”, The White House Gallery, Lovenjoel; ‘‘Paintings’’ Portraits(duo with Armen Eloyan), BÜRO, Basel; “Can’t Bust’em”, Galerie Derouillon, Paris. Her work has been selected for inclusion in illustrious public collections including the Musée d'Art Moderne de la Ville de Paris, Fondation Lafayette Anticipations / Guillaume Houzé, Paris (FR); Institute of Contemporary Art, Miami (USA); X Museum, Beijing (CN); Zuzeum Museum, Riga (LV)
