With solo booths such a prominent part of the fair, there are plenty of new perspectives and discoveries to be found, presented in depth by exhibiting galleries. One such discovery is Venus Over Manhattan’s solo booth of works by Seth Becker.
Heading back uptown, on Great Jones Street, “Seth Becker: A Boy’s Head,” at Venus Over Manhattan, gave us a selection of this gifted young artist’s recent disquieting paintings.
The artist's solo debut 'A Boy's Head' is now on view at Venus Over Manhattan in New York.
In his 1963 poem “A Boy’s Head”, Czech poet Miroslav Holub sifts through the imaginary contents of a child’s mind, from spaceships and bumblebees to “a project for doing away with piano lessons”.
See Seth Becker: A Boy's Head
A caped dog flying through the air, a snarling tiger at a tenement window, a person conversing with a fish—Seth Becker’s small oils in “A Boy’s Head” are droll non-sequiturs often involving human/animal interactions.
